With 2019 coming to a close, the CBAA would like to share just a few highlights of our year.
  • In an average week in 2019, 8.5 million people listened to community radio
  • We produced our first State of the Community Radio Sector Report, bringing together a range of data sources to provide insights into Australia’s community broadcasting sector
  • CBAA's Community Radio Network launch the sixth installment of the National Features and Documentary Series, an annual showcase of new work by Australian community radio producers
  • CBAA's Amrap and First Nations Media Australia (with assistance from the Australia Council for the Arts) announced First Sounds, an initiative to get more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists heard across Australian radio airwaves
  • The CBAA and iHeartRadio partnered to allow iHeartRadio Australia audiences’ access to some of Australia’s most loved community radio stations
  • The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA)
announced a deeming determination that will allow Edge Radio to provide a DAB+ digital radio service in Hobart
  • In the last few months alone we've seen the Government's response to the ACCC Digital Platform Inquiry, an industry-wide #RightToKnow media freedom campaign, a new B66 renewal form for community broadcasters, and an inquiry into regional Australia. We've been busy representing stations to ensure they are best supported now and into 2020. Read our latest sector leadership update and what's in store

CRN reuniting families this Christmas

Did you know 40,000 children wake up on Christmas morning with at least one parent in jail?

Christmas can be a hard time for estranged families, let alone families physically separated over the holidays. With this in mind, Jailbreak Producer Kate Pinnock has teamed up with Karen Anstiss, Coordinator of the Mothering at a Distance Project, to present a special broadcast focussing on sharing messages from mothers who are separated from their families over this festive season. CBAA's Community Radio Network (CRN) are incredibly happy to be providing this broadcast to all CRN subscriber stations.

Head to the CBAA website for more on this initiative.
