The finalists for the 2019 CBAA Community Radio Awards have been revealed.
Representing a diverse cross section of the community radio sector, more than 95 finalists span the 26 award categories which include Best New Radio Program, Excellence in Community Engagement, and Best Special Event Broadcast.
Winners for these - as well as the Station Leadership, Michael Law and Tony Staley Awards - will be announced at the 2019 CBAA Community Radio Awards Gala Dinner, on Saturday, 26 October 2019 at Pullman Melbourne on the Park.

The CBAA is looking for you to bring news from across the country to the National Radio News, a weekday news service combining the resources of Community Station newsrooms right across the country.
Based at Parliament House, the role of NRN Canberra Journalist will be multi-faceted - not only reporting on the day’s political stories but also creating your own content relevant to communities across Australia.
This contract position requires someone with the level of experience to be editorially sound working under limited supervision, able to source and research stories thoroughly, and generate stories for bulletins and potentially organise live crosses to programmes.

The three positions available include:
- Breakfast Presenter – full time.
- Presenter/Producer – full time.
- Presenter/Producer – casual (30 hours per week).

Last weekend CBAA’s Content Services Manager, Abe Killian, attended the SACBA (South Australian Community Broadcasting Association) conference at The Lakes in Adelaide. Twenty five stations from across South Australia attended with workshops presented by SACBA, CBF, CMTO and CRN.
The CBAA were also very pleased to give a session on the News Project which will allow stations to present news in their own local voice with content coming via NRN and the larger contributing stations in the sector. More on the News Project will be fully revealed at the CBAA Conference at the end of October.

Sitting at number nine on the Metro Chart this week is Donny Benét. Donny has had a huge 24 months supporting Mac DeMarco through the US. The Sydney artist has returned to Aussie shores releasing his latest groove-driven track Second Dinner. Leading the way at number one this week, Easy Browns with Dam Eels, a psych-rock / pop-punk track, produced by Paul Maybury.
Debuting at number one on the Regional Chart is Aussie festival favourite, Ash Grunwald with Ain’t My Problem, from his forthcoming album, Mojo. Sitting at number four is Seven Day Weekend, the latest offering from Melbourne six piece Underground Lovers.
Making waves outside of the charts this week is Wirlomin Noongar artist, Clint Bracknell hailing from Perth. Having spent the last few years creating for film and theatre, Bracknell’s latest release, Break Loose, a joyful call to arms for dreaming big, taking risks and shaking off the sleepy town blues.

Before CBAA, did you have a connection to Community Broadcasting?
I started listening to 2RRR and they had an ad on for their training course. I went on to host and produce a number of programs at 2RRR in lovely downtown Henley!
How do you enjoy your weekends?
I serve my cat overlord, as she so obviously deserves.
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
Always outnumbered, never outgunned!
What is currently on your playlist?
Well recently I've been rediscovering the Top Gunsoundtrack. But movie scores and soundtracks are my thing.
Favourite book?
Well, I was a big fan of the A Song of Ice and Fire books and interviewed George RR Martin back in 1999. It's been seven years or so since the last book and it's really starting to wear thin I have to say! |
